Eleven employees down and Foxconn is still up and running. A 28 year old man died just three months after marrying his wife. After working a 34 hour shift at the plant in Shenzhen, China, the man died shortly thereafter complaining of shortness of breath. This comes on the heals of 12 attempted suicides with 10 deaths from this plant alone. Foxconn manufactures the iPad, iPhone, iPod, Xbox 360, Wii, and PS3 to name some of their electronics. Steve Jobs reported that the suicides were “troubling” at best and this was about a week before this news broke out. Even though they say they are not a “sweat shop”, it most certainly appears to be one. It also is apparent that these companies are not paying as close attention to their 3rd party foreign work force as they should.
